Identifying as American is usually vague at best. Are you identifying
with middle America, rich with traditions of state fairs and
conservative values? The South riddled with racial history and the sound
of old time jazz? Moving away from regions entirely, are you claiming
to be of Caucasian decent or an immigrant looking for a better future?
It's difficult enough finding your place in a country mixed with so
many different ideas of being American, but even harder when your birth
is legally considered to be split between two very different countries.
I was adopted well before I was born by a white couple in their 30's.
After a few months delay due to medical reasons, I was flown from Korea
to the magical land of America. You can find an "brief" extensive
history of growing up adopted in the History tab. I'm currently in my
late twenties working for an international cultural exchange program in
Seattle and hang out with my American identified, Chinese boyfriend
playing video games and eating good food together.
This blog is to chronicle my continuing adventures of being the
three As while also peppering in stories of my youth when I had little
idea of who I truly was. Please enjoy the ride!
